Big News

Ah ha! I surprised you didn’t I? I’ll bet you’d completely forgotten that you’d subscribed to this blog way back when we were off gallivanting around Europe. Well, one of us was gallivanting anyway, the other one was working…sorry Amy. In any case, since returning to the United States after our time across the pond life’s been pretty un-blogworthy for the most part. Rental houses, jobs, laundry (ugh, laundry….but I can run both washer and dryer at once, thank you America). BORING. Much of “regular” life is, which makes it hard to be funny about it.

Well, I’ve come to tell you that “boring” is slowly coming to a close. We have devised a plan so cunningly brilliant that it should make the rest of our entire lives blogworthy! It is here I choose to announce my plans to run for President of the United States! Wait, wait, wait, no, wrong blog. Sorry. We all know someone like me could never be elected to public office, the cat stories alone would disqualify me. So what’s the big story you should ask? Well I’ll tell you…

We have decided that the time has come (…cue Lion King theme song…). Some of you may not know that for twelve loooooooong years (Amy suggested more o’s) Amy and I have known that we would not be able to have children. If you’ve been left wondering all this time why we didn’t have a few Basham kids around the house (at least ones that we didn’t borrow) now you know. Because of this we have had time to pray, reflect, consider, test drive (other people’s kids are great, sorry parents for all the sugar we gave them before sending them home), and otherwise contemplate the deep meanings of parenthood. Probably most importantly though we finally decided to sit still long enough to actually do something about it.

So, as of last week, Amy and I have turned in the last signed piece of paper that is needed to complete a home study for international adoption. While we have not kept it a secret really, we’ve also not done a great deal of advertising as we were just in the first phase of being approved to adopt children. Now, however, while we haven’t been formally approved we are fairly certain we will be and the next part of this process will begin. We wanted to take the chance to tell our friends and family that we are, at least in a way, expecting. Think of this as our “We’re pregnant!” announcement…except…we’re not (and I don’t advise anyone to ask Amy when the baby is due. This is for your own health). After some long discussions and serious prayer we decided to seek out two siblings that need a mom and dad. Unfortunately, this process is not for the faint of heart financially.

If you would like to be a part of bringing these Basham’s-to-be home, we’ve setup a Go Fund Me at https://www.gofundme.com/2btp44b8

I’ve also setup a site at www.dpbasham.com to do I.T. work for donations. So if your family, friends or church needs some help send them on over.
